Open Letter to the First Man I Ever Loved.

Dear Dad,

I write this lines to you, not only as your daughter, but as one of many daughters who know the lessons only their fathers could teach theme.

I write to you because out of every helping hand i have received in my life, you received the least credit and praise for the things you do.

Dad, I remember everything, your good night words “Que sueñes con los angelitos mija”, and the goodbye’s you used to tell me on school day mornings. I remember you driving and signing your favorites rock and roll songs. I remember every piggy-back ride, your delicious and very special sunday food with family. I remember every display of overwhelming patience and grace you showed me. I remember it all, because it lives in the heart of a daughter forever.

We let those images engrave themselves on our young and transforming hearts as we grow into young women. We learned to love the way  we were loved by you. You taught us that love from another should be respectful, honest and encouraging.

Dad you were the first man i ever loved. You helped me, played with me supported me and let me grow. You believed in me first. You dance with me first. You gave me all i could have ever needed, because you give me love. You showed me love is respect and support on all of life’s endeavors. You’ve held me tight and told me i could do anything.

One day you will walk me down to another man, chosen in the image of how you taught me to be loved. I’m never letting you go because i know that through any stage i encounter or dream i decide to chase, you’ll always there for me. I know that in my heart there is no love like the first love, and that part of me will always belong to you.

I love you, Happy Fathers Day !

Dori Love.
