Pick Your Quinceañera Royal Court: Chambelanes, Damas, or Both?

When to start: About 9 months before your Quinceañera

One of the most exciting parts of planning your Quinceañera is choosing your Royal Court. These are the friends and family members who will stand beside you, participate in your special traditions, and help make your celebration unforgettable.

Your court can include chambelanes, damas, or both. There is no rule saying your court has to look a certain way or include a specific number of people. What matters most is choosing people who are important to you and who are willing to be part of the experience.

What Is a Quinceañera Royal Court?

Traditionally, a Quinceañera court may include damas, or female attendants, and chambelanes, or male attendants.

Some quinceañeras choose an equal number of damas and chambelanes so they can be paired together for the entrance and dances. Others choose only chambelanes, only damas, or a smaller group of their closest friends.

You can create the court that works best for your celebration, your family, and your personality.

Your Royal Court Options

Chambelanes

You can choose a court made up entirely of chambelanes.

This option may work especially well if your choreography includes traditional partner dances or if most of the people you want beside you are male friends or relatives.

You may also choose one special person to serve as your Chambelán de Honor, who traditionally has a more prominent role during the celebration and dances.

Damas

Your Royal Court can also consist entirely of damas.

Your damas can be sisters, cousins, best friends, classmates, or other girls who have an important place in your life.

Don't feel pressured to add chambelanes simply because you think you are supposed to. Your Quinceañera should reflect you.

Damas & Chambelanes

Another popular option is having both damas and chambelanes.

They can be paired for your grand entrance, traditional waltz, surprise dance, photos, and other special moments throughout the celebration.

And remember: you don't necessarily need 14 couples. A smaller court can be just as beautiful and may make coordinating rehearsals, outfits, and schedules much easier.

Choose People Who Are Important to You

Your Royal Court is more than a group of people who will look great in your pictures.

These are people who will be part of one of the most important days of your life.

Choose friends and family members who genuinely care about you and who you believe will make this experience special. Years from now, when you look at your Quinceañera photos and videos, these are the faces you will remember standing beside you.

Your court members will always hold a special place in your memories after playing an important role in such a meaningful celebration.

Choose People Who Can Commit

Before officially asking someone to join your court, make sure they understand the commitment.

Being part of a Quinceañera court may mean attending:

  • Dance rehearsals

  • Dress or tuxedo fittings

  • Photo sessions

  • Rehearsals at the venue

  • Meetings or practices before the celebration

  • The entire Quinceañera day

If you are planning choreography, consistency is especially important. Missing several practices can affect the entire group.

Talk with potential court members and their parents when appropriate about the schedule before making everything official.

Talk About Expenses Early

Being part of a Royal Court can also involve expenses.

Depending on your plans, members may need to purchase or rent dresses, tuxedos, shoes, accessories, or contribute toward choreography or other activities.

Every family handles these expenses differently, so there is no single rule about who should pay.

The important thing is to communicate expectations before someone agrees to participate. This can prevent misunderstandings later in the planning process.

Don't Choose Someone Just to Fill a Spot

You don't need to invite someone simply because you need one more dama or chambelán to make the numbers even.

It's better to have a smaller court filled with people you love and trust than a large court made up of people you barely know.

Your court doesn't have to be perfectly symmetrical to be beautiful.

Start Your Royal Court List

At approximately 9 months before your Quinceañera, start writing down the people you would like to invite.

For each potential chambelán or dama, keep track of:

Name: ______________________________

Dama / Chambelán: __________________

Phone Number: ______________________

Snapchat / Social Media: _____________

Parent Contact: ______________________

Confirmed: Yes / No

Once you've created your list, talk with each person personally and explain what being part of your Quinceañera will involve.

Make It Meaningful

Your Royal Court will be beside you during some of the most memorable moments of your Quinceanera from rehearsals and getting ready to your entrance, dances, photographs, and celebration.

Choose the people who make you feel supported, celebrated, and happy.

Whether you choose chambelanes, damas, both, or just a few special people, there is no perfect number.

The perfect Royal Court is the one that feels right for your Quinceañera.

Happy Planning!
